Downtown Dallas has a collection of underground tunnels and walkways that are little publicized.  The Dallas tunnels are often misunderstood - many people do not even know of the complexity of the web of tunnels!  The Dallas tunnels were not part of any original design, but were rather an  afterthought - a connecting of already existing lower levels of various buildings in downtown Dallas.  So, sometimes it can be confusing.  Sometimes, you have to leave the tunnels for a minute to rejoin them a minute later.

Ultimately, though, I think the downtown Dallas tunnels are not well known because the government of Dallas does not encourage growth underground.  Dallas wants above street growth.  It is well-publicized that downtown Dallas life generally ceases at 5pm and is non-existent on weekends.  Dallas government wants to see this change, and by supporting the underground system it would kill above ground potential.  So, we're left with an array of shops, restaurants, doctors offices, and more that obtain most of their business from the skyscrapers they reside under, when in fact, most of them are within a short underground walk protected from the elements from a large number of buildings in Dallas.

I want to change perception and knowledge of the underground, so I've begun this page in 2003 to develop knowledge of this hidden jewel of downtown Dallas: the Dallas Tunnels.  I'm starting with a map, but want to branch out to a list of shops and restaurants.  To do this, I need your help.  Please, email me your Dallas tunnel stories and information!

I'm interested in putting as much information about the Dallas tunnels as possible on this page.  To do this, I will need your help!  Please email me with any information that you want to share.  Be precise with the location your information is at.  Over time, I want to include shop information, hours, interesting stories, pictures and specific tunnel navigation information.
